Full Cup Wellness is a virtual private practice.
This means that we operate entirely online, where therapy is conducted via a confidential, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform or by phone.
You may have heard of it by other names: telehealth, e-therapy, web-based therapy, telemental health, telemedicine… they’re all just different words for the same thing.
Although online therapy is relatively new, the research shows that it’s just as effective as face-to-face therapy, and it’s often PREFERRED by clients.
- Comfortable Imagine your therapist coming to YOU. That’s right… imagine popping open your laptop or phone while you’re sitting comfortably on your couch, at your kitchen table, or in your office… You click on a private link, and… voila! There’s your therapist… ready to get started. You get to choose the environment that works best for you and feel your emotions in the privacy of your own space.
- Convenient Eliminate the stress of rushing across town in traffic and weather to get to your session. You’re also saving time… When you subtract the time of getting you to and from your appointment, it makes therapy so much more practical. In fact, many clients use their office or car for therapy during their lunch breaks so that they don’t have to take time off work. Save that time for a vacation!
- Confidential You get an extra layer of privacy with online therapy. Some people feel uncomfortable going to a therapy office because someone they know might see them in the waiting room. Plus, studies show that therapy can be enhanced when you’re not wearing your “social mask” because you’ll be less inhibited and more ready to conquer your core issues. We’ll have our session using HIPAA-compliant video technology. That means we’ll use a platform that has special security around it so that your privacy is ensured on the Internet.
- Cost-efficient Forget about transportation costs, the parking meters, and worrying about a dependable vehicle! Depending on your children’s needs, you might even be able to eliminate the cost of child-care!
- Effective Some people worry that non-verbal communication will be lost online. Actually, because we’ll have a full view of each other’s faces rather than sitting across the room from each other in an office, we’ll be able to read each other’s facial non-verbal’s better.
Making the most of your online experience…
Here are some tips:
- Use a computer, tablet, or phone connected to a strong Internet connection.
- Find a quiet, well-lit, indoor, private space. Close windows if there is noise outside and turn the music off.
- Prop your device up so that you don’t have to hold it. When you’re hands-free, you’ll be able to focus more on the session, and I’ll be able to see you better.
- If you join in from your car, please make sure you are parked, never driving. Some clients sit in a parked car as a way of getting some privacy in a busy family home or the parking lot on their lunch break at work. Just make sure you have good cell service at your chosen location.
Online therapy isn’t for everyone, though.
If you’re experiencing recurrent thoughts of suicide, this may not be the crisis-level support you need. If this is you, please call 911, go to your nearest emergency room, or contact the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at (800) 273-8255.
If you’re actively struggling with substance dependence, you may need treatment that’s more comprehensive than what can be done by online outpatient therapy.
However, if you are already in recovery and want to work on underlying issues, online therapy might be a great option for you.
